Reunion at Hofbrauhaus - Newport, KY -

We are so fortunate in Northern Kentucky to have so many great places to meet and eat. We are especially fortunate to have a Hofbrauhaus in Newport, KY, and it is located less than ten minutes from my home and office.  www.hofbrauhausnewport.com

I met up at the Hofbrauhaus yesterday with four past co workers. I mean it had been a really long time since we saw one another. We had lost track over the years; one fellow I'd not seen in 25 years. We needed a meeting place where we could take our time, where it was not too noisy to talk and where we would not be too loud.

The weather was perfect, a cloudy day, not too hot and not too cold. The Cincinnati Reds were hosting the Yankees for a "businessman special" , so when we arrived there was a lot of red in the crowd. Gradually they meandered across the purple people bridge to the Great American Ballpark. They left us behind while we exchanged information about jobs, kids, spouses and reminisced about those days of old.

This will go down as one of the most enjoyable afternoons for me. Doing a roll call of when we left the job '84, '85, '92, 2000, 2010, we realized quickly how we could pick right up where we left off. We worked for a small company.  I can't help but wonder what the owners would think if they knew after all these years we still have such a bond.  I find it amazing the level of trust and caring that developed between us many years ago and still thrives.

We laughed, we got serious about job searches, we barely touched on politics, and then the red shirts started cresting the steps of the flood wall and flowing back across the purple people bridge. The game was over, and Walt "got off the subject" and commented, "we did not hear nor see one single fireworks".  Yankees 4 - Reds 2.

And, we ate. We ate great German faire, including cream puffs, strudel and ice cream. Most importantly, we sat for an entire ballgame and then some. When we saw the red shirts streaming back into the Hofbrauhaus we parted ways, vacated the table where we had shared so many memories. The Hofbrauhaus in Newport, KY was a perfect venue for our reunion; a perfect late spring afternoon!
